If you’ve made the decision to rent a car for anything from a long weekend away with the in laws (good luck!) or a week long jaunt to the seaside with the kids, then congratulations! Renting a car is a great way to get around and can also be far more economical than you think, meaning that you can enjoy your destination without having to worry. Of course there are still things that you have to consider, one of which is ensuring that you end up returning the car at the right time and the right place. Fortunately, the experts in care hire Lincoln based Rent Direct are here to help you with their tips on returning a rental car:
Always check in advance what will be best. When you first take the car our for rental, you’ll have the opportunity to check in advance exactly what the best circumstances are for you to return the car: it’s an opportunity you should certainly take. The firm that rents the car to you will usually have an advanced knowledge of exactly where the best locations will be for you to drop the car off, and it might give you the opportunity to use a drop-off point that’s nearer to your initial location.
Plan your return trip from your journey as far in advance as possible. When you’re planning to drop off the car that you’ve rented for the journey, that it’ll be necessary for you to have transport to take you away from the drop off point. You might be surprised how many people will drop off the car at the right point, only to realise they’ve then got no way of getting home, leading to them then having to rent another car simply to get back home, incurring further costs. Don’t be one of these people: plan ahead!
Drive Carefully. If you’re a responsible driver, then you’ll already be aware of the positive safety impact that driving sensibly will have on you and any passengers that you have. However, it can also benefit you financially in a significant way when renting a car, as it means that you are far less likely to incur any damage to the exterior of the vehicles, especially in the period immediately preceding the car being returned – the time when there are more accidents than in any other whilst renting a car!
Be punctual. This is without doubt the biggest error that many people make when returning a rental car. If you’ve been given a time by which the car has to be returned by, then that is the time that it has to be returned! It might sound obvious, but you’d be surprised just how many people will turn up with the car up to ten minutes late and then be surprised that there’s a fee for the lateness. If you’ve spent your whole week protecting the car like it’s your firstborn, then the last thing that you want is to incur an extra fee after all that!
